CS Education Week

CS Education Week is December 7th–13th, and BootUp PD has something special in store for K–8 teachers and students! On social media and here on our website we’ll be sharing brand-new K-8 Scratch and Scratch Jr projects designed to help every student see themselves as an innovator, storyteller, and problem-solver. Keep an eye out during CS Ed Week for the project releases and classroom-ready resources!

2025 CS Ed Week Activities
K-2nd Grade
In this activity, students will:
● create a sequence of coded steps in ScratchJr showing neighbors working together to plant and care for a community garden.

● Use number say blocks and arrow sequencing in ScratchJr to
animate a rocket countdown and trajectory.

3rd-5th Grade
In this activity, students will:
● Draw garden plots using code by combining the Pen tool and repeat loops
to create shapes (e.g., squares, rectangles, other polygons).

● Use variables, loops, and events to animate a rocket countdown,
launch, and return home.
● Apply sequencing and conditionals to control sprite movement,
background changes, and astronaut interactions.
In this activity, students will:
● Use sequences, events, and loops in Scratch to create an interactive
animation.
● Apply broadcast messages to coordinate sprite actions.
In this activity, students will:
● Use events, loops, variables, and conditionals to model plant growth and
wilting.
● Debug and refine code to improve project behavior (fixing spray direction,
pressure, thirst levels).

What is Computer Science Education Week?
CS Education Week is a community led event that celebrates and highlights CS education for students of all ages in all communities. CS Ed Week was founded to raise awareness about the need to elevate computer science education at all levels and to underscore the critical role of computing in all careers. CS Ed Week is celebrated each year during the week of Grace Hopper’s birthday (December 9, 1906).

Why is Computer Science Education Week Important?
CS Education Week is an opportunity for parents, educators, and students to embrace and include CS Education in schools and in their every day life. Whether it's attending webinars or including CS Education activities in their routine there are endless ways for everybody to get involved.
